Annie and Brianna

Today was my first time attempting to take pictures of someone other than Hannah and Rebekah.  (Not saying that in a bad way.  I LOVE taking pictures of those girls.)  But today I got to try something a little different.  We decided to take a walk down to the Poudre river by our house and take some pics.  It was definitely a quick decision.  We didn't have a lot of time for make-up or hair but it still turned out great.

My loyal models for the day were Brianna and her friend Annie (she's awesome, gorgoeus and so much fun.)  Her brother Parker (who's also really awesome) tagged along too but refused to let me take pictures of him.  I snuck one anyway.  Shhh...don't tell. ;)

  Here are the pictures:

So that was my day.  How was yours?

Summer is Almost Here!

After all this waiting, summer is almost here!  And I'm going a little insane with excitement.
I was talking to Hannah on the phone while sitting on my front porch the other day when I took these pictures.  It was evening and the sky was mixed with sunshine and lots of storm clouds.  It was absolutely perfect for taking pictures.  The way the sunlight played with the shadows was stunning.

Earlier last month I took lot's of pictures of spring flowers too.

I can't wait for summer but right now I'm satisfied watching summer finally come back into view.  Watching everything come back to life is enough to make me happy for a good long while.

The River Trip

To celebrate spring, my family and I ate a lovely lunch by the river. Naturally pictures resulted.

Above photos: scenery out the car windows

My sister by the water

This was not captured altogether well. It was too far away. But if I could I would have shown how mysterious those trees in the shadows looked, as though a party of Merry Men might be stealing through their distant depths.

  Yay! More scenery!

Tons of willows grow on the banks. Good place to play with your shadow.

I love this one. Hopefully it's distinguishable as the branches of a willow.

And I really love this one. I wanted to capture the color the branches are when they're about to burst into life.

This looks just like a story. It gave me the idea for the next couple of photos . . .

This was an enormous and very handsome table-shaped stone near the place where we ate. It's not the kind of prop you get every day, so of course use must be made of it. The beautiful blanket is a present I gave Mother for her birthday, and with its pattern it is very like a royal velvet cloak.

With that in mind, my imagination ran wild. I recalled the stories I'd read about King Arthur and his knights, and how when someone went questing, they would always find wierd things in the woods; unexplained and mysterious signs that something was afoot. So what happened here? Did a fairy leave her cloak behind? Did someone slumber here? Is the blanket/royal garment a gift for the questing knight who discovers it?

Nice to have fairy tales waiting for us behind the commonplace.

With my Bible, 'cause it looks cool.

A parting glimpse of the aspens.

Chalk

This week I discovered that I like drawing with chalk.  And then I discovered that I like taking pictures of chalk too :)

The first picture is a quote from the movie Robin Hood (not the cartoon version.)  It means never give up and never stop trying.  The second picture is obviously the Avengers symbol.  I can't wait for the movie to come out!

That's all for today.  Have a lovely week!

Nice Girls in the Suburbs

So here's the first pictures of 2012.  There are many more to come.  I'm working on plans for some more photo shoots with other really awesome people.  Like I've said before you'll have to excuse our slowness.  Hopefully you enjoy this and I hope they are a good start to the new year.

A Colorado Winter - Mountain Style

I will not pretend that I haven't at times envied Marissa her classy situation in the city. But I have learned the hard way to bloom where I'm planted. So, I present to you my Mountain Blooming Efforts.

Yes, I had to catch this. It's too precious to lose. I love stealing a still evening moment like this, because it fills me with endlessly satisfying knowledge that I have made the unforgttable REALLY unforgettable. Take a good look at it; let your breath be taken away. Why does all the world turn blue on a winter night? One of God's many lovely mysteries.

Yes, I know. It's a picture of a tractor. But it's a nice picture of a tractor. And I get kind of fond of seeing it perched up on the piney hill. Why not take a picture?

This is one of my favorite places in the world. It's where I go to feel as though I've been whisked away to another world (Narnia, perhaps, or Middle-Earth), where there may dwell any sort of people. But for the moment there is only myself for company, and my make-believe silver velvet cloak, and the whisper of falling snow. You could walk on and on if you wanted, rounding the sides of the hills and dreaming to your heart's content, for the universe is so quiet at times such as these that you have no reason whatsoever to think that fairy tales are impossible.

But, of course, there is often as much mud as there is magic. The natural order of things, I suppose.

A dear present from a dear brother. That's an aspen leaf he tucked in the bow. My birthday was in October, so I suppose to many people this is not strictly a winter photo. Where I live, however, Fall and Winter are nearly the same thing. And this picture makes me feel cozy no matter what season it is.

The view through one of the back windows of our house. The picture is somewhat imperfect, due to my careless camera positioning, and, of course, the window screen. But it's a good feeling all the same to see the sunset glow on the rocks, screen or no.

    A winter sky.
